i’ve been thinking more about eyes lately, and awareness.
yesterday i learned about Oyster vision…

The Oyster above is a Thorny Oyster (more videos can be found at CoralMorphologic). The rim of its mantle is lined with dozens of eyes that stare out into the sea. The little blue eyes… these are apparently simple eyes, only detecting changes in light that might suggest a predator is near.
A diverse community of animals and plants have colonized the upper shell of this Thorny Oyster, just a few square centimeters of space, on the hinged back of an oyster, there exists an entire community of life that is inextricably linked together in a complex balance…

i don’t know if i can eat Oysters on the half shell any longer.
