Vatn means water. I split taxi faire with two artists also heading to Gullkistan. Turns out Gull means: gold. Kistan means chest. Chest of gold (think pirate treasure) is where I am staying and that is the name of one of the mountains near-by. Day 2 (Gullkistan): Everyone went to bed early last night. it… Continue reading Trip to Laugarvatn
Good morning, evening, afternoon! This will be the last post written in Canada! Woo Hoo! I am on my way to Laugarvatn (LOYgarVOTn) tonight at 9pm EST. Still packing up final items, saying goodbye to various people and grabbing this and that from the nano-studio! Next update from Reykjavík! So, I will leave you with… Continue reading Fljúga!
Finally fired up the prototype Oven (Icelandic: Ofn) and everything was going smoothly… around 800f the kiln shelf cracked. Thankfully I had set it on a tripod configuration so everything remained stable. The pyrometer seemed to have difficulties at certain temps or staying on. Not sure what was up there- need to check the booklet that… Continue reading Raku ofn finally fired up!
55 backers pledged $5,695 to help bring this project to life! That said, I didn’t receive the full amount shown. Kickstarter takes a percentage plus, the credit card companies take a percentage, then there were banking issues.. you name it, obtaining this funding hasn’t been easy but it is no less appreciated! Massive gratitude for taking this campaign over the… Continue reading Kickstarter thank YOUs, Iceland & more
Last week I finally gathered the necessary ingredients to build a Raku kiln ‘photo-type’. 1/2″ fibre cloth, 2 cases of K23 kiln brick, fencing wire, galvanized steel waste bin, colloidal silica rigidizer plus a shelf, posts and digital pyrometer. I thought I’d best construct one of these kilns while I am still in Toronto and… Continue reading It’s freezing out, still.
Þorrablót celebrations are coming up in Toronto! The ICCT hosts a fun event. I will be working it this year, too! To start the celebrations and Spring cleaning I’m having a Spring cleaning SALE with coupon code: ICELAND2015 25% off everything in my Etsy shop. I’ve recently returned from Brooklyn and almost a month away there-… Continue reading Þorrablót
So, I am in Brooklyn. I totally forgot about these antlers I purchased back in … December/November? And had shipped to Clare’s. Anyways, here they are! They’re really nice! Old. Two points are missing, but nice just the same. My plan was/is to use them in photo shoots and make moulds off of the antlers,… Continue reading Iceland AiR support
I am currently finishing up Metal + Glass classes, deciding (still!) what to bring/ship to Brooklyn towards further experiments and shipping remaining items over to Iceland in March (when I return from Brooklyn). The other day I stumbled upon even more folders of images from the 2012 trip to Iceland and have started to sift… Continue reading Prepping towards Iceland
Ég vinn með málm og gler Yes, I do. Can you guess what that means? Without the help of Google translate! 😉 So, there are 3 days left with the Kickstarter campaign. Phew! It has been an interesting experience and I am so grateful and thankful for all of the support!! Last I checked there… Continue reading 3 days left for Iceland or Bust!
The excitement grows daily. Asking myself, Hva∂an ert þú? (Where are you from?) I suppose I am still searching… Maybe I would actually ask: Hva∂an ég þú? or þar er ég frá? 8 days remaining for the Iceland or Bust kickstarter campaign. Backers have been considerably generous, to say the least. Every penny is almost accounted for! Once the… Continue reading Hvaðan ert þú ?
